FAQ
In this section, you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about tube bending and tube rolling , as well as the most important processing methods for metal tubes.
We have compiled technical explanations, differences between the various processes, processable materials, equipment used and practical information for companies that require bent tubes, hollow sections and profiles with high bending precision.
These FAQs will help you to better understand the cold forming of metal tubes and profiles and the services offered by Tecnocurve.
The main difference lies in the bending radius and the machines used.
Another difference concerns the machines:
The bending radius refers to the size of the circular arc by which a pipe is bent.
When bending pipes and tube rolling, the radius is created in two different ways:
Tecnocurve specialises in bending and rolling tubes, hollow sections and profiles made from the following alloys:
Tecnocurve can bend the following types of tubes and profiles:
A section is either open (e.g. ‘C’ or ‘U’) or closed.

In the bending zone, it undergoes cross-sectional deformation.
Special tools can reduce this deformation, but never eliminate it completely.
During bending, the metal tube is shaped using clamping devices and dies.
As soon as the tube is removed from the tool, it tends to partially return to its original shape.
Example: When the bending machine bends at an angle of 45°, the resulting angle is often only 42–43°.
This deviation is called springback and depends on the ratio between the cross-section, radius and bending angle.
Cold forming is a mechanical process in which metal – in this case, a pipe or special profile – is shaped using machines and special tools.
The tools generate forces that bring the pipe into the desired shape according to the technical drawing.
Tecnocurve performs two types of cold forming:
The difference lies in the temperature during tube manipulation:
Hot bending allows for particularly tight radii (less than 1.5 times the diameter), but is significantly more expensive and impairs the elastic properties and material behaviour of the tube.
Tecnocurve specialises in tube bending and rolling.
We also carry out other processes, but always as a secondary process to bending or tube rolling:
A bending mandrel is a tool that is used in a pipe bending machine.
During bending, the mandrel is inserted into the pipe to reduce the inevitable cross-sectional deformation in the bending area.
A counterholder is a special tool that is mounted near the die and stabilises the pipe during bending to prevent or minimise creasing on the inside radius.
Bent metal tubes are used in many industries. Tecnocurve supplies the following economic sectors, among others:
There is no universal answer – it depends on:
Welded joints have certain limitations, including:
The most important factors are:
The centre axis is an imaginary line that runs exactly through the middle of the tube (also called the neutral fibre) and serves as a reference line for determining the tube length.
Tecnocurve handles both one-off projects and recurring small and large series.
In some cases, we manage certain items as stock after prior consultation.
The only products we have in stock as standard are our four bent steel profiles for cabins.
Yes, Tecnocurve produces samples and supports its customers right from the project phase.
Thanks to the technical experience of our employees, all aspects and potential critical points of tube manipulation can be evaluated.
Our customers are exclusively companies (B2B).
We do not work for private customers (B2C).
Yes, we organise national and international shipments. Our back office team also supports customers in the post-production phase. Given the variety of packaging, quantities and shapes, Tecnocurve relies on experienced logistics partners who can meet all requirements.
We have customers throughout Europe and regularly organise shipments to Germany, Finland, Sweden, France, Spain and other countries worldwide.
Yes, we process materials on a contract basis, either purchased and managed entirely by Tecnocurve or purchased directly by the customer and brought to our warehouse.
